fartlek: means "speed play" in Swedish. Is a routine consisting of timed intervals of speed followed by recovery intervals. For instance 2 minute sprint, 1 minute recovery. Intervals could be distance related instead of time.
tempo run: "comfortably hard" is a term often associated with a tempo run. Generally the speed is at your 10-15K race pace or 80-85% maximum heart rate. You should feel tired but not exhausted after a tempo run.
